What is the best Career Path for a backoffice C++/Sybase programmer with Part-Time MBA (GPA 4.0)?

I work for a big investment bank in Wall Street in back-office derivatives application - mainly programming in C++/Sybase/Unix . About a year back I completed part-time MBA (Finance) from CUNY with GPA 3.984. I expected that with the good result in MBA , I'll have a jump in my career and work closer to business, but it did not happen yet. All the offers I'm getting are based on my work experience, not my MBA. I also have a Bachelors in Electrical Engg and Masters in Computers from India (Masters from IIT)and 13 years of IT experience. Currently I'm making around 120K with pure programming job. Which career should I take which will give me 150K+ and allow me to work closer to business ? Should I try to become a quant? Or something else? Asked by bratishdg, 238 days ago

Frankly there is a far bigger shortage of good C++ developers than MBAs. You could move to quant development, wither by doing a finance masters or the Wilmott CQF. As a headhunter I know that IITs are respected in investment banks in their front office more than the back office. Thus any real advance is going to require you change area as will as skill.
