Self-knowledge and networking will set you free. There is a pretty wide range of jobs in finance and certain personalities are more suited for certain kinds of jobs. Traders like to schmooze whereas analysts need to be able to do more data and number crunching. If you don't know what your more suited for, talk to people in the industry about what it takes to succeed in their line of work and ask for their feedback about your prospects in that line of work. Those conversations will hopefully lead you in the right career directions and, potentially, to your first career opportunities. Which leads me to my second point: When you find the career path that is right for you, you will need to network to break in to your first job. Job boards are decent places to look for work, but most jobs aren't posted. Reach out to family and friends because you never know who they might know. Reach out to alumni from any school you might have attended. You will be pleasantly surprised how many of them will speak with you over the phone or sit and talk with you in their office and gladly point you in the right direction.
