For the same position in a firm, will someone from an ivy-league get paid more if he is offered the same job?

If you are coming out of a non-ivy league university but mannage to land a interview and actually get an offer, if someone else also gets the same position but comes from a top tier university, will they get paid more for the same job? Asked by xx5jabixx, 681 days ago

No, assuming that educational brand value is the only major job-related factor separating you. The prestige level of one's university is a major influence on whether you'll be considered for or offered a particular position. Many high-paying jobs are open only to Ivy League grads. However, if an Ivy Leaguer and a non-Ivy Leaguer are offered identical positions, the compensation won't differ because of the prestige difference. But if one candidate has relevant experience while the other does not, then the experienced candidate might be able to negotiate a pay premium. - Jon Jacobs, eFinancialCareers
